Gomez Platform Upgrade Optimizes Web and Mobile Performance:
Detects Issues Caused by Browsers, Devices, Cloud and Third-
Party Providers
DETROIT, March 8, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today Gomez, the Web
performance division of Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq:CPWR), announced
a platform-wide upgrade featuring industry firsts for managing Web
performance across multiple browsers and load testing both mobile and
Web applications. The upgrade also includes innovations that detect Web
performance issues created by cloud and third-party service providers.
Together, these new capabilities empower organizations to optimize Web
and mobile experiences for all of their end-users, regardless of
location, choice of browser or device.
Delivering quality Web and mobile application performance is not just
an increasing IT challenge but also a business imperative: research
shows that poor Web site performance can drive end-users away,
impacting revenues and brand. Today's Web and mobile applications are
increasingly composite and rich, comprising more content and
functionality (such as advertisements, video, Web analytics and
shopping tools) sourced from cloud providers and multiple
third-parties. Ultimately, all these components must assemble -- and
work -- in the end-user's browser.
The reality, however, is that any one of these third-party objects or
services can degrade the overall performance of the application,
impacting the end-user experience and jeopardizing online revenue and
customer satisfaction. Additionally, the expanding choice of browsers,
browser versions and mobile devices further complicates the performance
challenge: each browser and device operates differently, creating
substantial and often unpredictable performance differences.
"End-user access to business applications over the Web is a
mission-critical requirement for success in today's global economy,"
said Tim Grieser, Program VP of IDC's Enterprise System Management
Software program. "The Internet environment requires businesses and IT
organizations to deliver fast performance and high availability across
a wide variety of geographies, access paths, devices and browsers in
order to assure user satisfaction and gain competitive advantage. Web
performance monitoring and load testing are key functions for
proactively managing application service quality for end-users."
To address these issues, Gomez is today introducing:
-- The industry's first Web performance management solution that enables
synthetic Web performance monitoring on multiple commercial browsers.
The new solution records and executes performance tests using Firefox
and Internet Explorer test agents across the Gomez global network and on
a local PC. This provides an instant comparison of application
performance by browser, with granular detail about overall response
time, number of connections and sequence of object downloads. This helps
developers optimize performance for different browsers and IT operations
teams improve troubleshooting.
-- New features that identify performance issues caused by cloud or
third-party service providers such as ad networks, content delivery
networks, Web analytics and ecommerce tools.
-- The industry's first solution that accurately measures the response time
of both mobile and Web applications, prior to deployment. Gomez's load
testing solution can now test how mobile Web sites, applications and
infrastructure perform under load from the "outside-in." The solution
generates high-volume mobile load from the cloud to test how mobile Web
applications perform under peak traffic and then measure the mobile
end-user experience from the "wireless Last Mile." This helps mobile and
IT teams test the breaking point of mobile infrastructures as well as
monitor the impact of load on response times and availability for mobile
end-users. Ultimately, it helps them build and launch new mobile
initiatives with confidence.
-- New capabilities for easily recording and testing the performance of
smartphone applications, enabling IT and development teams to accelerate
the identification and resolution of smartphone application performance
and availability problems.
"As applications are increasingly built from multiple third-party
components and accessed via an expanding choice of browsers and mobile
devices, preventing and resolving Web performance problems becomes
exponentially greater and more time-consuming," said Imad Mouline, CTO,
Gomez division. "The upgraded Gomez platform addresses all these
issues, helping businesses spend less time troubleshooting and more
time delivering great Web and mobile experiences."
All solutions in the Gomez platform-wide upgrade are generally
available today on a subscription basis.
