8x8 Adds Wireless Telephony Solutions to Enhance Mobility and Productivity in the Workplace
GlobeNewswire 2012-01-04
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 8x8, Inc.
(Nasdaq:EGHT), provider of innovative cloud communications and
computing solutions, today announced the addition of two new wireless
telephony devices and an adjunct cordless service geared specifically
for companies seeking a cost-effective, reliable and user-friendly
answer to their on-site mobility needs.
The new wireless offering, built on the international DECT (Digital
Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) standard, consists of the Polycom
KIRK KWS 300 Wireless Base Unit and KIRK 5020 Cordless IP Phone and
includes a new 8x8 DECT Adjunct service which allows users to
dynamically transfer a live call from their desk phone to their
cordless handset and vice versa. With this new offering, companies can
now give their employees the freedom to be away from their desk in
another part of the office while remaining accessible and productive.
"Businesses are always looking for new ways to provide their employees
with cost effective, cutting-edge tools that will help them better
perform their daily tasks," said 8x8 Chief Marketing Officer Debbie Jo
Severin. "8x8's new wireless telephony solution addresses a very common
and often frustrating occurrence in the workplace when collaboration is
compromised as a result of an employee not being at their desk. Now,
workers can be equipped with their own physical handsets and can feel
free to attend meetings, hold discussions with colleagues or take a
break without missing an important call from a customer or co-worker."
Benefits of the KIRK Wireless Server base unit across a wide range of
vertical markets include:
-- Multiple User Support -- Each KWS300 base supports up to 12 KIRK 5020
handsets, with a maximum of 4 concurrent calls per base. (8x8 recommends
the use of 4-6 handsets per base for normal use.)
-- Cost Effective Solution- Using an SIP IP interface to the 8x8 Virtual
PBX and supporting Power over Ethernet, KIRK Wireless Server 300 allows
efficient use of the existing LAN network infrastructure and components.
-- Easy manageability - The KIRK Wireless Server 300 is deployed as a
single-cell DECT solution that is installed directly on your Ethernet
LAN and is managed as part of your company network. Up to 5 KWS300
Servers can be deployed in each cell.
-- Wide range - Approximate cell range is ~100 feet from its KWS300 base
unit.
Adding to the value of the KWS300 base unit, the KIRK 5020 business
grade color handset offers several key features including: a large
capacity phonebook, user-friendly, four-way navigation key and a
high-capacity battery powering each handset with a full day of talk
time and a week of standby time. The 8x8 DECT Adjunct service allows
customers to configure their Polycom KIRK 5020 handset as an adjunct to
any 8x8 supported desktop phone, thereby enabling a live call to be
moved back and forth between their desktop phone and their cordless
handset. There is no additional monthly charge for adding an adjunct
handset. For the highly mobile user, 8x8 is also offering a standalone
service that provides customers a wireless only alternative to a desk
phone.
