EMC has appointed Amity University, Noida as its first Nodal Academy in Uttar Pradesh under the EMC Academic Alliance (EAA) Program. Amity University will include an Information Storage and Management (ISM) course as a mandatory part of the curriculum for IT and Computer Science engineering students.
The EMC Academic Alliance program aims to collaborate with leading educational institutions around the world to address the emerging knowledge gap in storage technologies by developing a resource pool of skilled, certified and industry-ready storage professionals. The program offers an 'open course' on ISM for students. So far, EMC has forged alliances with over 150+ education institutions on other course programs in India that have reached out to over 9,500 students.
Under the program, Amity University will offer a course on ISM to over 500 students who are expected to enroll for the 2010-2011 academic year. The course will be part of the engineering curriculum for students in the seventh semester Computer Science and eighth semester IT Engineering.
As a nodal university for EMC, Amity University becomes a member of the EAA industry council and the regional center for all EAA activities in Uttar Pradesh including faculty readiness seminars, regional storage conferences and ISM-related course. EMC will donate textbooks to the Amity University library and Amity University will be eligible for discounted EMC products and services.
"There is an increasing demand for skilled professionals from the IT sector. The Information Storage and Management course is designed to provide aspiring students, a thorough understanding of latest and specialized technologies," said Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Amity University.
"In addition to soft skills, the course will enable them to advance in their careers by way of better jobs in areas of their interest. With the majority of fresh graduates often unable to meet the industry expectations due to lack of proper training, ISM is expected to bridge the gap and hone their skills to fulfill the requirements of the IT industry."
"The combination of complex IT infrastructures and enormous growth in the volume of information to be managed is creating a huge demand for highly skilled storage professionals. Instead of hiring from outside we need to develop talent internally," said Manoj Chugh, President of India and SAARC, EMC Corp.
"EMC has been working with leading educational institutes to produce more corporate-ready students. Such programs would, in the long run, reduce the time and money spent on training these graduates on their joining the company," added Chugh.
On successful completion of the EAA program, students will be awarded a certificate from Amity University, Noida and EMC acknowledging the completion of the course. The certification prepares the way for students to take the EMC Associate Storage Technologist Examination, one of the world's most recognized information storage and management certification.
