Canon Launches 20 New Cameras, DV Camcorders in India

Canon India Pvt. Ltd. has launched a new range of 20 technologically advanced, next generation digital cameras and DV camcorders for its Imaging Communication Product division.
The launch included five cameras in the PowerShot range, three cameras in the IXUS range, six high-definition and two standard-definition camcorders and the EOD 550D digital SLR having three high quality lens versions and two Pro DVs.
With the launch of these products, Canon expands the range for digital cameras, camcorders, D- SLR products to 42. Canon also announced its plans to invest Rs. 55 crores in marketing its camera business in 2010.

Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice President, Canon India, said, "Our intuitive intelligence technology is getting smarter. Smart flash exposure and smart shutters are new additions to smart auto technology. Even a child can now create 'fish eye' effect and 'blur' effect while capturing images, giving an artistic feel to the art of photography. Household penetration of cameras is low, but growing in Indian homes. Our DSLR business has grown to become 10% of total camera business, thanks to the rapidly emerging photo enthusiasts. Canon's technology advances in wide angle, high optical zoom, faster processor and high definition video capturing features with sleek looks are wowing our customers."
Canon said its 14 Megapixel (MP) IXUS 210 will provide the ultimate camera experience with its most advanced touchscreen, allowing users to navigate the menu and adjust settings at the touch of a finger. Users can scroll through pictures by running a finger along the 3.5-inch screen. Alternatively, users can tap the sides of the camera to scroll between shots. The camera also gives an option of tagging favorite pictures using the touchscreen, as well as deleting and rotating images. The camera's 14 MP resolution allows for detailed photos that can be enlarged to poster sizes.
The IXUS range, with its newly advanced yet easily adaptable features, is designed for the fashion-forward customers and those who appreciate beautiful form and high functionality in a compact camera.
Canon also announced its new range of eight high- and standard-definition camcorders. The latest FS305 is the lightest, smallest digital camcorder by Canon, which makes it a great companion throughout a user's day. Letting users get closer to all of the action, the DIGIC DV II processor combines with the optical precision of a Canon Video Lens to deliver the reach of a 41x Advanced Zoom. The FS305 records movies straight to SD or SDHC memory cards - easy to carry and ideal for sharing.
Some of the other camcorder models now launched are the FS 306, HF R16, HF R18, HF M300, HF M31, HF S200 and HF S21 with exceptional quality to capture life with a click of a button. Canon also launched two Pro DV models, the XF 305 and XF 300.
With an aim to educate and inform users, Canon said it plans to set up eight exclusive pro-zones in India and 80 workshops exclusively on wedding photography during 2010. The pro-zones will have the entire range of consumer, prosumer and professional cameras on display where customers will get to touch, feel and experience the Digital SLR Cameras with combination of lenses and other accessories with expert guidance, enabling first hand information on the entire range of products and take an buying decision. Four pro- zones will be set up in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad in the next three months.
The workshops planned, will kick off as a series of workshops from this month starting with Ahmedabad and going on to 37 other cities such as Baroda, Surat, Nasik, Pune, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Patna, Trichy, Coimbatore, etc. The workshops will focus on wedding photography and will be conducted by renowned names of the photographic fraternity of India. With this initiative Canon aims to impart practical knowledge on photography among its target audience and take photography to the next level.
"We will also soon be setting up eight exclusive pro-zones for EOS D-SLR buyers during this year to give users hands-on experience on the friendly technology," added Alok Bharadwaj.
The latest professional camera to be launched is the EOS 550D in three versions with Kit lenses. It redefines the boundaries of Canon's consumer DSLR range, incorporating technologies and features more commonly found in semi-professional DSLRs into the compact, lightweight body favored by consumers. The Canon EOS 550D offers photography enthusiasts a powerful, versatile and user-friendly platform for shooting stunning stills and HD movies. Features of the camera provides for a wide dynamic range and low noise.
The Canon EOS 550D with 18 MP sensor boasts of a higher ISO range operating up to 6400. The highlights of the camera include 1080p HD video recording (with full manual control), an 18MP CMOS sensor, 3-inch 3:2 LCD with 1040k dot resolution and the 63-point iFCL metering system.
