CompTIA Educational Foundation has partnered with Bender Consulting Services Inc. to help wounded warriors and other individuals with disabilities gain full-time employment in the IT industry.
The Foundation's Creating Futures program trains and certifies groups of people historically under-represented in the IT industry. The program works with employers to identify their hiring needs, then tailors education and training programs to help individuals obtain the skills the employers are looking for to enable them to secure IT careers. Training, mentoring, courseware, practice exams and certification vouchers are provided at no cost to these individuals.
Bender Consulting provides competitive employment opportunities for people with disabilities, who are trained in IT, engineering, accounting, human resources and general business areas. Around 45% of its career opportunities are in IT and asserts that individuals with CompTIA certifications are more inclined to be hired for IT positions.
"Our training partner Fast Forward in South Carolina brought Bender Consulting to our attention, and they're a perfect match for helping our Creating Futures participants transition to full-time employment," said John Venator, president and CEO, CompTIA Educational Foundation. "We have hundreds of wounded warriors currently getting trained and certified, and these individuals have so much to offer businesses through their military experience and preparation."
Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Penn., with opportunities across the U.S. and Canada, the firm places its consultants on six-month contracts with the intention of them transitioning to the client if that person performs well.
"We have over a 90% success rate for our consultants being hired by our clients," said Joyce Bender, president and founder, Bender Consulting. "Every CEO in America knows that good employees, with the right skills and attitude, are priceless. When you hire a person with a disability, you make a great business investment, and you provide freedom and opportunity for that person."
Bender Consulting looks to recruit individuals with a positive attitude, eagerness to work and flexible schedules. Wounded warriors and other individuals with disabilities can apply online through Bender Consulting's Web site, www.benderconsult.com. Then, a Bender Consulting recruiter interviews the applicant over the phone or through instant messenger. If the recruiter can identify a job opportunity that matches the abilities and desires of the applicant, then a second interview is conducted. Later the applicant is interviewed by the client. The process can take any where from a week to a few months, depending on which job opportunities are open at the time.
After the individual is hired, Bender Consulting offers Disability Awareness Training at no fee to its clients and manages an ambassador program to help consultants get acclimated to the client's corporate structure and mentor and network with former Bender consultants.
"Our consultants are motivated to enhance their lives and, in turn, enhance every job they do," added Bender.
Prospective Creating Futures participants can apply for training by visiting the Foundation's Web site, http://www.CompTIA-EF.org.
