2010-01-22

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) has partnered with security provider F-Secure Corp. to offer to all MTNL subscribers the MTNL PC protection at a price of Rs. 2 per day for the basic pack.

Targeted at MTNL customers across Delhi and Mumbai, the facility is aimed at offering Internet security through the Broadband network. The MTNL and F-Secure partnership will provide the customers a very high level of security including proactive protection through F-Secure's DeepGuard technology.

F-Secure offers a real-time protection network for consumers that enables global protection within 60 seconds from the first confirmation of a new threat. This is based on F-Secure DeepGuard 2.0, a technology that uses "in-the-cloud" computing to provide instant protection against new threats.

Kimmo Alkio, CEO for F-Secure, said, "We are very pleased to have secured this working relationship with MTNL in this important value added service area. Together with MTNL, our task includes educating the market regarding the best practices for protecting data and devices when using the Internet. It is very important that players like MTNL encourage their subscribers to use a convenient security solution like ours. Security is the most important element of their customers' broadband service as it allows them to have safe online experiences."

J. Gopal, Executive Director MTNL Mumbai, said, "With the increasing growth of Internet usage and the higher broadband penetration amongst our customers, we wanted to offer them one of the most effective PC protection packages which not only provides high security, but is also a value for money. F-Secure is a well-known leading anti-virus solutions provider and it is indeed a great opportunity for MTNL to be a part of F-Secure's network."

"With various products available through the association we are hopeful of building a strong portfolio which gives our customers the latest anti-virus offering that is value-maximizing and caters to their needs of online security," added Gopal.

MTNL said that through this association with F-Secure it looks forward to providing relief to the MTNL customers from online security threats. By offering a price of Rs. 2 per day, the secure browsing experience for Internet users will now become easy and affordable.

The company has introduced a special 30-day free trial to evaluate all the MTNL PC Protection features with no obligation to pay. For more information log on to http://pcprotect-mtnl.sp.f-secure.com/.

Keeping in mind the phrase 'prevention is better than cure', F-Secure said consumers now are more vigilant with their online life and activities. The company's survey clearly shows that people rely on their security software for online safety and secure Web sites to ensure the safety of their online shopping and banking. Just over 20% realize that appropriate online behavior on their own part also plays a big role. 70% of respondents in India relied on the security software they had purchased or the security service from their Internet Service Provider.
