Hibernia Atlantic, the TransAtlantic submarine cable provider, announced that its Project Kelvin fiber network cable build is successfully underway. This modern cable construction will connect Northern Ireland directly to Europe and North America.
This build is part of 'Project Kelvin', a joint initiative between the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) for Northern Ireland and the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR) for the Republic of Ireland.
The initiative is designed to further stimulate local and global commerce with a new wealth of fiber optic capacity and the ability to directly and securely connect to North America, UK and mainland Europe.
The project, currently under construction, includes laying the cable network in place, both on land and in the water, to connect 5 towns in the Republic and 8 towns in Northern Ireland to Hibernia's existing transAtlantic cable. This build also includes establishing a Telehouse in Londonderry/Derry.
