Alcatel-Lucent announced that its 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) has been selected by NTT DOCOMO, Japan's largest mobile operator, for the all-IP transformation of its network.
Alcatel-Lucent's solution will enable NTT DOCOMO to deliver high quality voice, data and video services meeting its customers’ diverse demands.
Based on its 7450 ESS, Alcatel-Lucent's solution will help NTT DOCOMO construct a nationwide, high quality, latency-sensitive network addressing voice and video traffic when transporting over its core IP network. It also provides a smooth evolution path for NTT DOCOMO to upgrade its network to 10Gig and, as network growth demands, to 40 Gig and 100 Gig.
"This selection by one of the most advanced mobile operators in the world is a strong endorsement of Alcatel-Lucent's IP portfolio," said Sean Dolan, president of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in Asia-Pacific. "Transforming its network to all-IP is enabling NTT DOCOMO to meet its customers' converged service requirements on data, voice and video."
Over 270 service providers in more than 100 countries around the world have selected the Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS portfolio as key elements of their IP transformation. According to Ovum, Alcatel-Lucent holds the No. 2 position in the IP/MPLS Edge market segment.
