Nokia N97 Now Available in Stores in India

Nokia announced that the Nokia N97, the flagship device from the Nseries range, is now available in the Indian market. Designed for the needs of Internet savvy consumers, Nokia said the N97 will transform the way people connect to the Internet and to each other.

The first touchscreen device from Nseries, the Nokia N97 introduces the concept of a personalized home screen that lets people chose their favorite content, providing an 'always open' window to applications and/or Internet content such as social networking sites, RSS feeds and other widgets in addition to Ovi feeds. The Nokia N97 is the first Nokia device to offer integrated access to the Ovi Store.

"From the desktop to the laptop and now to your pocket, the Nokia N97 is the most powerful, multi-sensory mobile device in existence. It is an important step towards our vision of delivering a highly personalized Internet experience," said Vineet Taneja, Director-Marketing, Nokia India. "Fuelled by a multitude of media and applications through the Ovi Store, the Nokia N97 transforms the Internet into an experience that's completely tailored to the tastes and interests of its user."

The Nokia N97 is available for an MRP of Rs. 36,119/-. Nokia said it has also worked out an easy EMI payment system for the Nokia N97. The company has partnered with HDFC and Citibank to provide a three month EMI option at 0% interest rate to consumers in select retail outlets in metros and select cities and towns across the country.

Additionally, on the purchase of Nokia N97, Vodafone consumers will receive an exclusive free data plan over three months for browsing the Internet services 24x7. This will provide consumers greater freedom to connect, create, discover and share highly personalized media and applications. Nokia N97 winners on Vodafone will also get exclusive access to 'The Groove', a unique lifestyle widget, which provides users live updates on movies, dining out, shopping, clubbing, cultural events as well as sports. The offer will be valid for Vodafone consumers at all Vodafone Stores retailing Nokia devices, all Nokia Branded Retail outlets as well as Multi Brand Outlets across various cities.

Nokia said its flagship Nseries device introduces leading technology such as multiple sensors, memory, processing power and connection speeds for people to share their social location. With integrated A-GPS sensors and an electronic compass, the Nokia N97 mobile computer intuitively understands where it is. The Nokia N97 makes it easy to update social networks automatically with real-time information, giving approved friends the ability to update their 'status' and share their 'social location' as well as related pictures or videos.

The Nokia N97 is the first device to ship with Ovi Store, a one-stop shop for a full catalog of applications, games, videos, podcasts, productivity tools, Web and location-based services, and much more. Ovi Store has paid and free content from a range of global and local content providers and developers, including Facebook, Paramount Pictures and Twitter applications. In India, the Ovi Store on the N97 offers a choice of free to download and paid items developed specifically for Indian consumers, by Indian developers under the aegis of Forum Nokia. In addition, users will also have access to global items, a mix of paid and free to download content.

The home screen of Nokia N97 can be customized to feature the people, content and media that matter the most. Friends, social networks and news are available by simply touching the home screen. The tilting, large touch 3.5", 16:9 widescreen display, which comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, can be personalized with a range of widgets that bring live information directly to the devices. In India, the NokiaN97 will come with 10 international widgets and 5 local widgets and applications pre-loaded on it. These include key social networking destinations like Facebook, news services like NDTV and Reuters, as well as email, shopping and weather information.

The Nokia N97 is also well suited for browsing the Web, streaming Flash videos or playing games. The intuitive user interface with a choice of physical QWERTY and virtual touch input ensure efficiency in blogging, chatting, posting, sending texts or emailing. Images can also be geo-tagged to specific locations and shared instantly with friends or uploaded online via Ovi Share, Twitter, Flickr or Facebook.

The Nokia N97 supports up to 48 GB of storage, including 32 GB of on-board memory, expandable with a 16 GB microSD card for music, media and more. This is complemented by excellent music capabilities, full support for the Nokia Music Store and continuous playback time of up to 1.5 days. The Nokia N97 also has a 5 MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 16:9 and DVD quality video capture, and support for services like Share on Ovi for immediate sharing over HSDPA and WLAN.
