2010-02-10

Reliance Communications Ltd. announced that it will be shortly launching its Mobile Applications Store in India available for customers through its data portal RWorld. The company said the new look RWorld 2.0 is set to re-define the "Wow Experience" and would be a 3G ready data portal with world-class content management system supporting all the latest features available on mobile handsets.

The first version of the Reliance Applications Store is planned to go live on GSM handsets as early as the month end. The company will launch an expanded version across CDMA as well as GSM handsets later this quarter. RWorld 2.0 will be equipped with state-of-the-art service delivery platform supporting on-device portals, idle screens, widgets and RSS readers showcasing latest developments across the world.

Reliance Applications Store allows customers to browse and download applications (paid/free) through a controlled environment. The success of the Applications Store lies in the ease with which developers across the world can develop, publish and promote programs and applications through a single mother portal cutting across all platforms and network elements.

Mahesh Prasad, President - Reliance Communications, said, "It is our constant effort to offer our customers a 'wow experience' and with the launch of the Reliance Applications Store, we will be taking a giant leap in that direction. Applications stores have benchmarked the overall VAS experience of customers globally, and the launch of Reliance Applications Store in India will provide consumers a broad selection of relevant, fun and exciting applications to choose from in the easiest possible way."

RCOM said the core idea behind the launch of RWorld 2.0 is driven by 4 Cs:
- customer experiences based on smartphones
- content localization and SNS generated content
- contextual search for content across all Voice, SMS and Data
- clear and simple pricing

The company said the success of applications stores and new age technologies from handset manufacturers has proliferated data usage amongst consumers across the world. Reliance Communications had promoted the concept of 'Bus Button Dabao', a customer friendly experience on CDMA handsets through data portal RWorld. The concept of an evolved Applications Store is to ensure that data services are accessible, easy and fun to use.

Reliance Communications through the Reliance Developer Program (RDP), (running successfully since 2002) now has a community of over 10,000 individual and corporate registered developers. RDP aims to provide a platform and act as a catalyst to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among the vast student talent pool in India. Students can earn revenues while they learn and then become young entrepreneurs. An annual RDP Contest is also held and the best innovators among students/entrepreneurs are suitably rewarded. Application developers in India and abroad can deploy their applications on RWorld and monetize it through the revenue share model.
