Cable & Wireless Panama and Supercanal Argentina License Rovi
Guide and Applications to Bring Advanced, Interactive TV
Viewing Features to Subscribers
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 10, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Rovi Corporation
(Nasdaq:ROVI) today announced two cable operators in Latin America will
deploy the Rovi Passport Guide to provide their subscribers with a
guide that is application-rich and has flexible program guide features
that enrich the television viewing experience. Rovi has signed
multi-year licensing agreements with Cable & Wireless Panama in Panama
and Supercanal in Argentina for the use of Rovi Passport Guide and
Passport applications, marking Rovi's continued growth in the Latin
America market. Cable & Wireless Panama will also license Rovi TV data.
Today's consumers have countless entertainment options from which to
choose, including linear and on-demand content. Rovi Passport Guide,
Rovi TV data and Passport applications are designed to help consumers
discover, connect and manage the television programming that matters to
them most. Rovi TV data provides consumers with insightful program
descriptions, rich media content and TV schedules. Passport
applications can also help cable operators drive increased
subscribership through value-added services such as games, Caller ID
and access to more premium content.
"As the digital home entertainment market continues to evolve at a fast
pace, we look for scalable and innovative solutions that allow our
subscribers to enjoy today's media-rich digital content," said Roberto
Mendoza, executive director of corporate affairs, Cable & Wireless
Panama. "Rovi's Passport Guide and TV data meet that criteria and make
it possible for our customers to easily discover more of their favorite
TV programming."
"For the launch of our new digital cable system, we went through
careful evaluation for a guide solution that would enhance the
television experience of our subscriber base," said Marcelo Juarez,
programming manager, Supercanal. "We selected Rovi's Passport Guide to
enable us to offer our customers interactive, intuitive features so
they can quickly and seamlessly connect with the movies and television
shows that they love."
"The addition of Cable & Wireless Panama and Supercanal to our customer
roster highlights the flexibility and value-add that the Rovi Passport
Guide offers to our service provider customers in Latin America," said
Bob Shallow, SVP of worldwide sales for service providers at Rovi
Corporation. "We are pleased that Cable & Wireless Panama and
Supercanal have selected our guidance solutions to bring forward an
advanced television viewing experience for their subscribers."
