3rd October 2012 - We are pleased to announce that the University of Manchester has selected Greenstone Carbon Management to assist in measuring, monitoring and reducing its environmental impact through Greenstone's Acco2unt and SupplierPortal solutions.
By implementing Greenstone's web-based carbon management solution, Acco2unt, the University is now able to calculate, manage and report carbon emissions from multiple sources across its buildings and business activities. This includes being able to measure and monitor the impact of energy, travel, waste, water and IT.
As the UK's biggest University, the University of Manchester is under increasing pressure to disclose transparent and accurate carbon and energy data. Traditionally it has captured and measured this data using Excel spreadsheets, a resource-intensive approach that does not enable flexible analysis. Moving this process onto Acco2unt will ensure greater transparency of data and reduce the burden of carbon reporting across multiple sites, enabling the University to focus on analysing the results and developing carbon reduction strategies.
In support of its strategy to reduce energy consumption, the University of Manchester is now able to calculate the energy and carbon footprint of its ICT estate through Acco2unt. The energy profile of the ICT estate can be uploaded, analysed and broken down by different equipment types to provide an indication of where additional energy savings can be made and the impact of efficiency programmes already in place.
The University of Manchester has a significant annual spend and monitoring the performance of its supplier network is a huge challenge. The University will also implement Greenstone's SupplierPortal solution, enabling it to monitor environmental, labour, health & safety and anti-bribery & corruption information across its supplier network. The web-based solution also enables suppliers to calculate their carbon, waste and water footprints based on business consumption data uploaded to the portal.
Lucy Millard, Environmental Sustainability Manager at the University of Manchester, comments: 'The implementation of Greenstone's carbon management and SupplierPortal solutions signals another significant step in the University of Manchester's drive to improve its environmental performance across its operations. It makes the whole process of tracking and reporting our emissions quicker, easier and more cost-effective.'
Matthew de Villiers, CEO at Greenstone, comments: 'We are delighted that the University of Manchester has selected Greenstone's Acco2unt and SupplierPortal solutions and we look forward to helping it deliver on their commitment to becoming recognised as a leader in environmental performance. We are finding that organisations in the educational sector are looking for more efficient ways to measure and report their carbon emissions because they are under increasing pressure to make cost savings and reduce their environmental impact.'
