Micronet, a provider of networking products, has announced its new Micronet SP3508A an EoVDSL (Ethernet over VDSL) clustering switch that aggregates 8 VDSL lines into 2 Gigabit (Gb) Ethernet uplinks.

The SP3508A delivers cost-effective and high-performance broadband and multimedia services to multi-unit building environments, such as enterprise, campus, hospital, hotel and telecom. It is empowered with QAM-based 4-band VDSL technology, which extends Ethernet and supports 5/15/25 Mbps symmetrical bandwidth over the existing telephone-grade wiring up to 1.7/1.1/0.6 km.

The new SP3508A is compatible with ETSI, ITU, ANSI standards. The product supports 8 VDSL ports with QAM-based 4-band VDSL technology, has the a data transfer rate up to a symmetrical bandwidth of 25 Mbps with a wiring range up to 1.7 km, and features the auto speed function for the VDSL link.

The product has a built-in POTS/ISDN splitter for POTS/ISDN telephone service, and allows data transmission and voice service over existing telephone-grade wiring. The device also has SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) indications with temperature and fan alarm and spectral compatibility with XDSL, ISDN (2B1Q/4B3T). It also has an on-board splitter and is surge protected.

The SP3508A supports intelligent switch capability and management features for metro network to facilitate optimization of the network. Included features are 802.1q/p Tag-based VLAN, IEEE 802.1v Protocol-based VLAN, IEEE802.3ad LACP, IEEE 802.1d Spanning tree, IGMPv2, MAC/IP filtering, Port Mirror, Broadcast Storm Control, SNMP and Web-based management.

"With broadband applications gaining momentum in the country, the Micronet SP3508A will help in bringing the applications to the users at a cost effective manner. Over a year's time, we have been talking about IP TV or Video on Demand, etc., but it is not actually taking off because of the high cost of infrastructure. Now with the Micronet SP3508A, we can actually take bandwidth hungry applications to the users' place," said Deepak Sharma, Business Development Manager, Micronet Communications Inc., India.

Micronet's new SP3508A is available in India through its distributors Ace Microelectonics and Intratech.
