Entropic Communications' Powers Comcast's Reference Design Kit for Next-Generation Xfinity IP-Client Devices

   Entropic's Support for Comcast's IP-RDK Accelerates IP-Client
                      Set-Top Box Development

BOSTON, May 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (The Cable Show, Booth #1567)
-- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in
semiconductor solutions for the connected home, announced today its
silicon and software will be integrated with the Comcast(R) Reference
Design Kit (RDK) to provide device manufacturers an opportunity to
quickly develop and bring-to-market IP-Client set-top boxes.

The Comcast RDK provides a framework that enables device manufacturers
to rapidly optimize and deploy new broadcast and IP-based solutions for
a richer consumer TV experience. A pre-integrated software bundle that
powers the IP-Client devices and set-top boxes, the Comcast IP-RDK,
will combine Entropic's single-core ARM(R) Cortex(TM)-A9 (TSC184) and
dual-core Cortex-A9 (TSC188) family of processors with its Multimedia
over Coax (MoCA(R)) connectivity silicon and software to provide a
range of cost-effective MoCA-enabled IP-Client devices that will run
native and cloud-based applications.

"To drive the next wave of consumer TV interactivity, it's important
for us to be able to provide reference design kits that are robust,
mature and technologically advanced. Entropic's IP-STB solution
provides an ideal platform for RDK for manufacturers wanting to develop
IP-Client devices that connect to Comcast's whole-home video gateway
and advanced DVR platform, over the in-home network," said Steve
Reynolds, senior vice president of Premise Technology for Comcast.
"IP-Client devices will enhance consumers' TV engagement experiences,
giving them new capabilities to enjoy TV programming and search and
discover content, connect to cloud and web-based information, and
manage their account."

"We are seeing monumental changes in the cable industry today. The
transition from QAM- to IP-based systems with increased in-home
connectivity will revolutionize the TV viewing experience," said Mark
Samuel, senior vice president, Set-top Box Group, Entropic
Communications. "As a leading silicon vendor for Comcast's IP-Client
RDK, we are preparing 'cable-ready' silicon that allows developers and
OEMs to rapidly bring-to-market new IP-Client boxes capable of
seamlessly connecting to a cloud-based DVR server or an advanced
gateway in the home -- all over MoCA, the fastest in-home backbone
connectivity network."
